Open Access Policy

All IIKII articles are published with open access under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution License (the current version is CC BY 4.0). In accordance with major definitions of open access in scientific literature, e.g., the Budapest Open Access Initiative, the Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing, and the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities, IIKII defines open access as follows:

  • Peer-reviewed literature is freely available without subscription or price barriers;
  • Literature is immediately released in open access format (no embargo period);
  • Published material can be re-used without obtaining permission as long as a correct citation to the original publication is given.

This means that all articles published in IIKII journals, including data, graphics, and supplements, can be linked from external sources. They can also be scanned by search engines, re-used by text mining applications or websites, blogs, etc., free of charge under the sole condition of proper accreditation of the source and original publisher.

Please note that some materials such as figures, tables, or text may be taken from other publications, especially review articles. In this case, you should inquire with the original copyright holder (usually the original publisher), whether or not this material can be re-used.

All published IIKII articles are accessible to all readers and free of charge. The open access publication is supported by the authors' institutes or research funding agencies by payment of a comparatively low Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted articles. In addition, print versions of journals or articles are permitted on demand.
