By analyzing the relationship between components of a product, the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) was used to visualize the structure of intricate causal relationships of factors that affect purchase decisions for Balance Bikes. Cluster analysis was employed to visualize the structural relationship. We took three Balance Bike designs to apply DEMATEL in their design development and compared DEMATEL results with the results of the questionnaire survey and interviews. The result showed that DEMATEL can be applied to product design and development. For Balance Bike design, respondents valued aesthetics and delivery more than other indicators including practicality, productivity, functionality, and operability.

Exploring Consumer Preference for Sustainable Design Attributes in Music-Inspired Products: Integration of Sustainable Development Goals

by Lu Chen, Chia-Hui Huang* and Chun-Chih Chen
    IDC 2024, Vol 3, Issue 2, 9-19, https://doi.org/10.35745/idc2024v03.02.0002 - Published on May 16, 2024

    Abstract

Music, as a transcultural art form, offers auditory enjoyment and conveys profound emotion and distinctive imagery. In the era of emotional consumption and within contemporary consumer culture, elements of musical imagery have become intricately entwined with product design, providing consumers with deeper visual and emotional experiences. We explored consumers’ cognitions and preferences concerning the integration of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators into the attributes of music-rel...

Perceptual Learning for Promoting Design Thinking in Space Design Education

    by Daisuke Nagatomo*
    IDC 2024, Vol 3, Issue 2, 30-37, https://doi.org/10.35745/idc2024v03.02.0004 - Published on May 29, 2024

    Abstract

The application of real-time visualization and virtual reality (VR) technology was examined to promote students’ design thinking in space design education. Learning space design, such as architecture and interior design, takes a series of iterations of training to nurture their imagination of how to translate their idea into a physical format. While design thinking refers to ideating, prototyping, testing, and implementing, educational methods for space design linearly provide students with an o...

Integration of Narrative Strategies in Poster Design Education for Southeast Asian Students

by Tzu-Chun Ma*, Chia-Hua Lin and Shu-Ni Hsu
    IDC 2024, Vol 3, Issue 2, 38-48, https://doi.org/10.35745/idc2024v03.02.0005 - Published on June 25, 2024

    Abstract

Owing to the proactive implementation of the New Southbound Policy, the proportion of Southeast Asian students studying in Taiwan is steadily increasing. They exhibit variations in perceptions, communication, and cultural backgrounds in learning. These differences often lead to confusion and challenges during the coursework. In this study, we integrate narrative strategies into poster design education, where professors teach students textual contexts to identify and solve problems, and ultimatel...
